Three dimensions to check before copying

The structural gaps most teams discover too late.

Topology
Is collaboration core to the value loop?
In Figma, every additional participant creates more product exposure and account depth. Invites are natural because more people equals more value. If your product delivers its core value to one user alone, this topology is absent — and no amount of invite prompts will manufacture it.
Diagnostic
Does usage by one person make the product more useful for others?
Activation
Can a new user reach first value without a long setup?
Figma delivers visible value quickly while still supporting deep workflows later. The ideal PLG shape is low friction at entry, high sophistication over time. Products with the reverse shape — hard to configure at the start, value only after integrations and data — should not expect Figma-style self-serve economics.
Diagnostic
Can a solo user reach the aha moment inside one session?
Expansion
Does more adoption naturally mean more revenue?
Figma's seat growth maps cleanly to account value growth — more roles touching design review means more natural expansion. If free users mostly create support cost without generating team spread or upgrade pressure, the free tier behaves as a subsidy, not a growth engine.
Diagnostic
Do free users create exposure, value, or expansion — or only cost?
