Figma's DNA — by the numbers

The structural conditions that made PLG work.

5
DNA dimensions
Structural prerequisites
Multiplayer topology, fast activation, bottom-up spread, DNA-aligned pricing, and natural seat expansion — all five must be present for the model to replicate.
1
Defining decision
Limit files, not collaborators
The free-tier gate was placed on the one constraint that preserved the multiplayer loop. Limiting collaborators would have taxed the behavior the product depended on.
3
Diagnostic checks
Before borrowing the playbook
Do free users create exposure? Does one user trigger team spread? Does revenue expand naturally as adoption deepens? If not, the model does not transfer.
